Why is MySQL by Oracle losing ground? RIP Oracle's MySQL
by CyBorg Tue Dec 27, 2022 2:36 pm

Hi All, I've been working with DBs for a long time, recently switched from Oracle's MySQL Server to MariaDB Server when I changed companies. MariaDB Server seems to have gained a lot of ground, and Oracle jobs are being advertised less and less frequently. I'm wondering, what happened? I know that Oracle priced themselves too expensive for most, but is that it? Because Oracle still felt like it was quite superior to MariaDB.

It turns out that once I realized that the main developers that created the version that Oracle bought are now the folks running and who are responsible for the creation of MariaDB I had to switch just out of respect.

If you're a developer and used MySQL in the past you must switch to MariaDB as they are the folks and true leaders of MySQL and have moved forward without Oracle due to conflicts of interest.

MySQL from Oracle does not meet the benchmarks standards that most of us need and require.

They make a lot of headway because they have a lot developers, more than MariaDB, however the brain-trust that created MySQL and maintained it are now in fact doing that for MariaDB.

Many companies no longer use MySQL and have issued EOL statements and now use MariaDB. I'm afraid Oracle is out of gas and are wasting a lot money trying to keep up with Monty and nobody has the mind of Monty so what has been come to be known as MySQL has caused a lot of confusion. MariaDB is merely the advanced and enhanced version of the MySQL Oracle is pushing.

Oracle is out of gas and the leader is now MariaDB Server simply because it is the same programmers and person that started the version Oracle is pushing. They "Monty and the programmers he took with him when he left Oracle) created a fork of the version Oracle had and continued development without Oracle or their bad ideas.

Most people have no idea that this happened...

I am posting this so that any of the experienced developers that do not know and did not follow MySQL or database white papers can know the truth.

Sorry Oracle but Trix are for Kids and MariaDB will continue to be the leader no matter how many changes or advances you make. Monty was your Brain Trust and he is gone and is now MariaDB!

In short Oracle needs to retire the project they have, because it is so much slower and just as a whole has been left far behind by MariaDB!
